"A Call to Youth and Families"

Youth arts program students, families, Harlem community members and arts
and civil rights organizations join together to call for peace and
prosperity in Harlem!
 
Join the Harlem Children's Zone and the Institute for Urban and Minority
Education for the UMOJA! Supplementary Education Expo as we call the
Harlem community to ACTION this Human Rights Day weekend. If Human
Rights Day means anything in Harlem, it means sharing our commitment to
local justice and peace in our community.  Help build stronger
connections by joining this day of activities.  This event is for
everyone! 

    * The premiere viewing of the youth-produced documentary video,
"UMOJA! We Are One: Creating Peace in Our Community".  The video
chronicles the relationships between African immigrants and African
Americans in Harlem, exploring the tensions, issues and opportunities as
viewed through the eyes of the youth.

    * A performance by Sing Sing Rhythm Senegalese Sabar Dancers and
Drummers

    * Free Health Screenings provided by Harlem Hospital Outreach

    * Action Workshops-a forum facilitated by youth for community
members to dialogue with representatives from a diverse group of local
and international grassroots organizations on the challenges facing our
community. Topics include:

Youth Arts and Afterschool Programs
College Preparation                          
Community Organizing and Housing Issues
Early Childhood and Family Support
Health and Wellness
Immigration and Civil Liberties
